Privacy Policy

Overview

Keeplings keeps the things you create, your reminders, your creatures, and your progress, on your device. It does not have accounts, and it never asks for your name, email, or any contact information. To understand how the app is used and to find and fix crashes, Keeplings can use a third-party product-analytics service called PostHog. This is optional: you choose whether to allow it the first time you open the app, and you can change your choice any time in Settings > Your data & privacy. This policy explains what that service collects when you allow it, what stays only on your device, and the choices you have.

Data That Stays On Your Device

The content you create in Keeplings is stored locally on your device only:

• Reminders: the times and labels you set for your habits
• Creature and habit data: your progress and your collectible creatures
• App settings and preferences

This content is not uploaded to our servers or PostHog's. It is not part of the analytics described below, and the text of your reminders and notes is masked in the usage recordings described under "Session recordings."

Your Consent

The first time you open Keeplings, you are asked whether to allow diagnostics and analytics. If you decline, none of the data described in this section is collected, and the PostHog SDK stays inactive. If you allow it, you can turn it off again at any time with the "Share anonymous diagnostics" switch in Settings > Your data & privacy, and collection stops immediately.

Information Collected Through Analytics (PostHog)

If you allow analytics, Keeplings includes the PostHog SDK, which sends the following to PostHog's cloud servers in the United States so we can measure how the app is used and diagnose problems:

• Usage and interaction data: which screens you open, taps and navigation, and app-lifecycle events (opened, backgrounded, installed, updated).
• Session recordings: recordings of your interactions with the app's screens. All text and all images are masked before the recording leaves your device, so the content of your reminders, notes, and creatures is not visible in them. They capture layout and interaction, not your personal content.
• Crash and error data: when the app crashes or hits an error, we collect the error message and a technical stack trace, plus structured diagnostic logs, to fix it.
• Device and app information: device model and manufacturer, operating-system version, app version and build, language, time zone, screen size, and whether the network is Wi-Fi or cellular.
• An anonymous identifier: a random ID generated on your device to group your events together. It is not your name, email, phone number, or an advertising identifier, and it is not linked to any account, because Keeplings has no accounts.
• IP address and approximate location: your IP address is received when data is sent, and PostHog derives an approximate location (such as country, region, or city) from it. We do not collect precise or GPS location.

We do not create advertising profiles, we do not run ads, and we do not sell your data.

How This Data Is Used

We use the data above only to understand which features are used and how the app performs, to detect and fix crashes and errors, and to improve Keeplings. Events are captured anonymously: because Keeplings never identifies you, PostHog does not build a personal profile linked to your identity.

Who Processes This Data

PostHog Inc. acts as our data processor and handles this data on our behalf under a data processing agreement, storing it in the United States over an encrypted (TLS) connection. We do not share this data with any other third party for their own independent use.

Data Retention

We keep analytics data only as long as needed for the purposes above. Session recordings are subject to a limited retention window and are deleted automatically after it passes. You can ask us to delete your data sooner (see "Your Choices").

Your Choices

You choose whether analytics is on at first launch, and you can change that choice any time in Settings > Your data & privacy; turning it off stops collection immediately. Because Keeplings has no accounts, your data is tied only to the anonymous identifier generated on your device; the Your data & privacy screen in the app shows this ID. To request deletion of the analytics data already associated with your device, contact us at john@johncwaters.com (including that ID if you can) and we will remove it. Uninstalling the app stops all further collection.

Notifications

Keeplings uses your device's local notification system to fire reminders at the times you set. These notifications are scheduled and delivered on-device; their content is not sent to our servers.

Accelerometer

Keeplings reads your device's accelerometer sensor to produce a foil shimmer visual effect on creature cards. This sensor data is processed in real time for the visual calculation only. It is never stored and never transmitted.

Purchases

Optional in-app purchases are packs of Amber, the in-app currency spent on cosmetic card decorations and on meeting new creatures. Purchases are processed by Google Play's billing system; payment and transaction details are handled by the store, not by us, and we do not receive your payment card information.

Children

Keeplings is intended for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has used the app and you want the associated anonymous analytics data removed, please contact us at the address below.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes in a future version, we will update the effective date above and, where required by law, notify users through the app or through the relevant app store.
